Exceptional complete example of the Belgian Euro Starter Kit, issued in preparation for the introduction of the euro.
Produced in connection with the historic transition from the Belgian franc to the single European currency, these Starter Kits were distributed to banks, La Poste and retailers, enabling them to familiarize themselves with the new coinage and to hold an assortment of euro coins prior to their official introduction into circulation.
The set has a total face value of €240 and contains at least one roll of each denomination, providing a representative selection of the Belgian euro coinage.
Approximately 700,000 Starter Kits were issued in Belgium. The overwhelming majority were opened and used for their intended purpose. Consequently, examples that have survived complete and in their original configuration are particularly elusive on the numismatic market.
Beyond its scarcity, the present set represents a tangible memento of one of the most significant monetary transitions in modern Belgian history: the replacement of the Belgian franc by the euro.
