Item Description This is a decorative bronze vase produced using the traditional Takaoka Doki (Takaoka copperware) technique from Toyama Prefecture, Japan. The vase has a bulbous, pear-shaped body that tapers into a flared trumpet neck, finished in a mottled dark grey-brown patina characteristic of karadō bronze alloy. The body is decorated with a flock of flying cranes rendered in contrasting gold and silver inlay, a motif traditionally associated with longevity and good fortune in Japanese art. The rim of the mouth is fitted with a polished silver-toned metal band, and the interior of the neck shows fine turned ridges from the original casting and finishing process. The underside bears an engraved inscription reading "In commemoration of the erection of a bust, Amano Mitsuharu", indicating that the vase was originally produced and presented as a commemorative gift. It comes with its original wooden storage box (tomobako), typical of higher-quality Japanese decorative metalware intended for display or for use with ikebana flower arranging.
