In Japanese folk tradition, this deity is widely recognized as Daikokuten, the popular god of fortune and prosperity among the Seven Lucky Gods. The mask is hollowed and sculpted from a single solid wood block, entirely finished with natural Japanese urushi lacquer. It features a soft flesh-toned facial base, vermilion lacquer details on the headband and lips, and finely hand-painted black eyebrows and moustache. With full, gentle ears and a warm, benevolent facial expression, it presents a classic and elegant Kagura-mask style. The reverse side bears vertical ink calligraphy inscribed with the deity’s name, with the red seal of the maker Sōka (双花) stamped below the writing. This is an original handcrafted work. Consistent with its age, the mask shows subtle accumulated patina, minor surface dust and slight lacquer wear. There are no cracks, chips, dents or restored areas. Overall in good, well-preserved condition commensurate with its age.
