The face, the beard, the fold of cloth across one shoulder all rise from depth and controlled absence rather than from anything placed upon the surface. No paint. No print. No ink. Seen from across a room, the bust is still and monumental, a quiet presence holding its ground in the dark. Come closer and that stillness opens into a field of depth, curl after curl, a brow furrowed by something the surface will not quite say. As an artist, I am driven by a constant desire to explore new visual languages.
