Warm amber, golden-brown, cream and grey tones form an elegant contrast, highlighting the complexity and beauty of this ancient marine specimen. Ammonites were extinct marine cephalopods related to modern squid, octopuses and nautiluses. They inhabited the world’s oceans for millions of years before disappearing during the mass extinction event at the end of the Cretaceous Period, approximately 66 million years ago. The specimen has been carefully polished on the display side to enhance its natural colours and palaeontological features, while preserving the characteristic spiral form.
