exceptional fossil tooth of Otodus obliquus, an early representative of the shark lineage that later gave rise to the famous Otodus megalodon. The tooth remains partially embedded in its original phosphate matrix, preserving the natural geological context in which it was discovered.
The exposed crown displays a smooth, honey-amber enamel surface with clearly visible longitudinal striations. The root remains partly enclosed within the surrounding matrix, creating an authentic and highly attractive presentation. Additional small fossil fragments are also naturally preserved within the rock.
Provenance: Khouribga phosphate basin, Morocco
Geological period: Late Paleocene–Early Eocene
Approximate age: 55–60 million years
Khouribga is one of the world’s most renowned fossil localities, particularly celebrated for the abundance and quality of its fossil shark remains.
Condition: Natural tooth retained in its original matrix and presented in the condition in which it was discovered. The crown has not undergone restoration or reconstruction.
The presence of the original matrix gives this specimen particular scientific and aesthetic interest, naturally documenting its geological context and enhancing its authenticity and collectable value.
