An impressive and highly decorative complete Japanese samurai armor (Tosei Gusoku / 当世具足), made during the Shōwa period (1926–1989). This is a substantial full armor set designed in the traditional style of Japanese samurai armor. When fully assembled on its wooden display stand and armor storage box, it creates a commanding presence and makes an exceptional centerpiece for a Japanese art, samurai or militaria collection. The armor is predominantly finished in deep black, complemented by blue-grey lacing, restrained red accents and gilt metal fittings. The combination gives the entire suit a dignified and powerful appearance. One of its most striking features is the large gold family crest (kamon) displayed prominently on the front of the cuirass and repeated on the helmet. The crest resembles the traditional mokko/flower-form family crest, providing a strong visual focal point against the black armor. The set includes the principal components expected of a full decorative samurai armor, including the kabuto (helmet) with tall maedate, menpō (facial armor) with moustache, dō (cuirass), shoulder and arm protection, kusazuri, haidate, suneate, and other associated armor elements. Particularly attractive details include the gilt ornamental metal fittings, textile borders, patterned fabric, elaborate lacing and the floral decoration visible on several fittings. The interior of the cuirass also retains an elegant woven floral textile lining. The menpō is especially expressive, with a black lacquer-style surface, open mouth and naturalistic moustache, giving the displayed armor a strong samurai character. Also included are the traditional armor storage box (gusoku bitsu / 具足櫃) and a wooden display stand. The armor can therefore be stored compactly in the traditional manner or assembled for full standing display as shown in the photographs. The armor shows natural signs of age, wear, discoloration, fading, surface marks and minor deterioration to some textile and fastening elements, consistent with an older Japanese armor set. These traces contribute to its traditional appearance and character.
