A remarkable 19th-century metal strongbox in Historicist style, circa 1870, distinguished by its compact yet exceptionally robust construction. The box is surprisingly heavy for its size, reflecting its substantial metalwork and original utilitarian purpose. Its most striking feature is the exceptionally large original carrying handle, mounted on prominent raised supports. This is complemented by the substantial original hinges, shaped base, pronounced edges and beautifully preserved original lock plate, giving the piece a distinctive and imposing character. The interior retains its original warm yellow finish, with elegant scalloped and raised decorative detailing around the inner lid and rim. The dark exterior has developed an attractive authentic aged patina, with natural paint loss and wear that beautifully reveal its age and history. The combination of robust early-industrial construction and decorative Historicist detailing makes this an especially appealing example of 19th-century metalwork. The original lock is in working condition and the strongbox comes complete with two original keys. Condition: Good antique condition, with authentic signs of age, wear, paint loss and patina. The original character has been preserved. Style: Historicism / Eclectic Historicism Period: circa 1870 The item will be carefully packaged and securely shipped with Track & Trace.
