Ikebana 花瓶 - 石器 - 日本 - 藤原雄(Yu Fujiwara)(1932–2001)
A powerful crane-neck vase (tsurukubi hana-ire) in unglazed Bizen stoneware, by a Living National Treasure of Japanese ceramics, its deep reddish-brown body giving way to a dark, ash-fused base born entirely from the fire of the kiln.
【Artist Profile】
Yu Fujiwara (藤原雄, 1932–2001) was a Living National Treasure (人間国宝) of Bizen ware, certified in 1996. He was the eldest son of Kei Fujiwara, himself a Living National Treasure of Bizen ware, making the Fujiwara family the first father-and-son pair in the history of Japanese ceramics to both receive this honour. Fujiwara built on his father's legacy while developing his own bold, direct style, often described as "simple, clear, and powerful" (単純、明快、豪放). He held exhibitions across the United States and Canada and lectured on Bizen ware at universities worldwide, helping bring international recognition to the tradition. As Fujiwara passed away in 2001, works by him are no longer in production. This is a finite body of work.
