英國及英聯邦硬幣拍賣

一个美丽的例子，1819年发行的 2 Lepta（½ Obol），由伊奥尼亚群岛联合合众国在大不列颠国王乔治三世在位时期发行。

A beautiful example of the **2 Lepta (½ Obol) of 1819**, issued by the United States of the Ionian Islands during the reign of **King George III of Great Britain.

The obverse features the famous Venetian Lion of Saint Mark, accompanied by the Greek legend **ΙΟΝΙΚΟΝ ΚΡΑΤΟΣ (“Ionian State”) and the date 1819.

The reverse depicts Britannia seated left, with the legend BRITANNIA. The design reflects the political relationship between the Ionian Islands and Britain during the period of the British protectorate.

The coin was struck at the Royal Mint in London, under the direction of the British administration of the Ionian Islands. The denomination was equivalent in value and weight to the British farthing.

Historical context:
The United States of the Ionian Islands was established under British protection in 1815 following the Napoleonic Wars. The Ionian Islands occupied an important strategic position in the Mediterranean, and their coinage during this period combines distinctive Venetian symbolism, represented by the Lion of Saint Mark, with British monetary and political influence, represented by Britannia.

This 1819 issue belongs to the early coinage of the Ionian State and was produced during the reign of George III. It is therefore an interesting piece of Ionian, British and Mediterranean monetary history**.
