This handcrafted *maki-e* (sprinkled metal powder) lacquer flower vase with a wooden core is the work of Japanese lacquer artist Akashi. It features a tall, square-profiled form with a waisted silhouette, characterized by slender, elegant lines. The entire piece is lacquered to a glossy, mirror-like black finish, offering a texture that feels both warm and substantial.
The body is adorned with a delicate dandelion motif; fine gold lines outline the stems, while the dandelion florets shimmer with iridescent hues as light strikes them. The lower section incorporates large patches of gold leaf with natural texturing; the staggered, mottled application of the gold leaf subtly and elegantly evokes the imagery of dandelions drifting gently on the breeze.
The vase features a square shape with chamfered corners—narrowing at the top and bottom while gently flaring in the middle—striking a balance between stability and graceful linearity. It comes with its original paulownia wood storage box (bearing the artist's seal) and features the artist's square signature mark on the base. The set is in excellent condition, serving as a fine example of Japanese lacquerware that is suitable for both practical flower arranging and art collecting.
