A beautiful, warm-sounding, French viola, built c. 1870 by Jules Grandion, measuring 38,6 cm LOB. The instrument features a professional repair for an old worm damage. The repair was carried out in 1931 by Alphred Hoff of Antwerpen, and is stable with no structural, or tonal consequences. The viola comes with a certificate and a valuation, issued by Mr Strick of Brussels, who is a world expert in French instruments. The viola was recently set up by Matthieu Besseling of Amsterdam. It will be sent in a case by Rokkomann, including a set of new strings, designed for smaller viola. All in all, an excellent instrument for a player, who is after an historical instrument of a manageable size, and a modest price tag.
