Lot of Two Original German Fire Service Merit Crosses (Brandschutz-Ehrenzeichen)
This lot features two distinct and highly detailed Fire Service Merit Crosses representing different German Federal States (Bundesländer), each preserved in its original blue presentation case.
■1. Fire Service Merit Cross (Schleswig-Holstein)
• Award Criteria: Awarded to firefighters and civil protection personnel for outstanding merits and exceptional achievements in fire safety, firefighting, or rescue operations within the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
• Obverse: An equal-armed cross covered in white enamel, featuring stylized red flames on each arm. The center holds a separate shield with the official coat of arms of Schleswig-Holstein (the two blue lions of Schleswig and the Holstein nettle leaf).
• Reverse: Textured surface with a three-line raised inscription: "FOR VERDIENSTE IM BRANDSCHUTZ" (For Merits in Fire Protection).
• Ribbon: Traditional red-white-red ribbon.
• Bonus: Includes a matching miniature lapel pin (Fraktion/Miniatur) for civilian wear.
■ 2. Fire Service Cross for Long-Term Active Service (Saxony)
• Award Criteria: Awarded to volunteer or professional firefighters to honor long-term, continuous, and active faithful service (typically for 25 years of duty) within the fire brigades of Saxony.
• Obverse: A beautiful dark-red enameled cross with gold-accented flames rising from the center. The centerpiece features the coat of arms of the Free State of Saxony (horizontal black and gold stripes overlaid with a diagonal green rue-crown).
• Reverse: Fine-grained texture with a three-line inscription: "Für langjährigen, aktiven Dienst" (For Long-Term Active Service).
• Ribbon: White-green-white ribbon (the official state colors of Saxony).
■ Condition & Completeness
• Condition: Very good collectible condition. The enamel work on both medals is completely intact with no chips or cracks.
The original metal plating shows excellent preservation.
• Included: Two full-sized crosses, one miniature lapel pin (for the Schleswig-Holstein cross), and two original blue presentation cases with custom velvet lining inserts.
■ Production Period & Dating
• Schleswig-Holstein Cross: This 2nd type design has been awarded since 1967. Based on the hardware style and presentation case, this specific example was manufactured between the 1970s and 1990s.
• Saxony Cross: Instituted following the reunification of Germany and the re-establishment of the Free State of Saxony. This modern type has been in production from 1992 to the present.
