Rev: الملك / العادل أبو بكر / بن أيوب / سيف الدين. “The Just King Abu Bakr, son of Ayyub, Sword of the Faith.”

Al-Adil I, younger brother of Saladin, ruled the Ayyubid Sultanate from 1196-1218 AD. After Saladin’s death, he overcame rival heirs, secured Egypt in 1199 AD, and reunited much of the realm, including Egypt, Syria, and parts of Arabia. A skilled commander and diplomat, he strengthened defenses, maintained cautious relations with the Crusaders, and introduced administrative reforms. His dirhams invoked Abbasid caliph al-Nasir and bore his titles.
