Navicella portaincenso in argento 800 – Venezia / Regno Lombardo-Veneto – XIX secolo
Antique Venetian Silver Incense Boat – Lombardo-Venetian Hallmarks – 19th Century
Elegant liturgical silver incense boat, presumably Venetian manufacture, dating to the 19th century.
The object features refined vegetal motifs and volutes, hammered and chased decoration, with a shaped body, raised circular foot and hinged lid with decorative terminal element.
There are stamps related to the silver control system of the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom, compatible with fineness 800/1000 and with the Venetian area. Reading of the hallmarks is consistent with Venetian production of the 19th century.
The typology is the traditional navicella portaincenso, used in the liturgy to contain incense before use in the turibulum.
Period: 19th century, roughly mid-1800s
Origin: Venetian area / Lombardo-Veneto, attribution based on stylistic features and hallmarks
Material: silver, presumably fineness 800/1000
Height: about 18 cm
Total weight: about 430 g
Technique: repoussé, chasing and casting
The object preserves a strong decorative presence and considerable solidity, features particularly interesting for collectors of sacred silverware and Venetian silverware.
Shows normal signs of age and use compatible with its era. It is advisable to examine the photographs carefully, which are an integral part of the description.
