A lady’s and gentleman’s dress cane, both with shaped horn handles. The gentleman’s presentation cane with a black ebonised wooden shaft and engraved sterling silver collar, fully hallmarked for London, 1895. The collar is decorated with scrolling foliage and bears a presentation inscription dated 1895. Length: 92 cm. The shorter lady’s cane with a polished reddish-brown wooden shaft and pale horn handle, mounted with a richly chased gilt-metal collar decorated with scrolling foliage and engraved ‘J. Beith’. The collar is unmarked, late Victorian/Edwardian. Length: 84 cm. Both with minor wear and marks consistent with age and use, the horn with natural variations. The silver collar of the gentleman’s cane with some shallow dents. The lady’s cane retaining a rubber ferrule, the gentleman’s cane without a ferrule.
