Large and richly decorated antique petroleum oil lamp, dating from approximately the late 19th to early 20th century. The lamp is fitted with a burner clearly marked: “ROWATT'S PATENT MARVEL GERMAN MAKE” The lamp is completed with an attractive frosted and etched glass shade, decorated with grapevine and leaf motifs. The glass bears a visible “St. Louis” signature. The elaborate metal base is particularly decorative, featuring classical female heads, lion masks and ornamental detailing. The metal has developed an attractive aged brass/bronze-coloured patina.
