This Kutani ware kuro-glaze chawan features a naturally undulating rim. It is decorated with gold and silver painted cranes flying over Mount Fuji alongside pine branches. Cranes and Fuji are auspicious motifs symbolising longevity. The glaze has a warm glossy finish with wabi-sabi aesthetic for tea practice. The base bears Hiromine (弘峰) mark. It comes with an original tomobako wooden box inscribed “Kutani” and large calligraphy “Hiromine”. A red seal “Kutani Kinsei” is stamped on the box. The Natsume (棗) is wood lacquerware decorated with Maki-e. On deep brown lacquer ground, cherry blossom and maple leaves are painted in fine gold powder. It depicts both spring and autumn flora, a classic maki-e thin tea container. Signs of natural age-related wear are present on all pieces due to age. Storage dust and ageing are visible on the wooden box. Overall condition is good for its age.
