figurative gold weight (mrammou), belonging to the Akan ethnographic tradition, evokes the ancient metrological and commercial system of the Akan region, where such bronze objects were used to measure the gold dust employed as currency.
The piece represents a figurative scene rich in courtly and hierarchical symbolism. In the central part, a chief sits on a seat of authority, holding a pipe in his hand. Above him unfolds a ceremonial parasol, while at the rear of the ensemble, a smaller figure acting as a servant holds the staff of the parasol.
From a technical standpoint, the work has been executed using the thimble lost-wax technique, which gives a unique character to every detail of the modeling and casting. The sculpture rests on an open rectangular base and presents an attractive natural patina typical of artisanal alloy, preserving excellent structural integrity.
