An Elegant Satsuma Tea Bowl by Azemoto Kishū – A Colorful Garden of Flowers
This beautifully decorated Japanese matcha tea bowl (chawan) was created by Azemoto Kishū (畦元紀秀) of Kishū Kiln (紀秀窯), a ceramic artist associated with the traditional craftsmanship of Satsuma ware.
The bowl features a warm ivory-colored glaze with delicate crackle patterns, characteristic of the refined Shiro-Satsuma (White Satsuma) tradition.
Its exterior is adorned with a vibrant arrangement of seasonal flowers and foliage, meticulously painted in purple, red, yellow, green and blue, with elegant gold accents. The richly decorated front contrasts beautifully with the undecorated reverse, where the fine crackle glaze can be fully appreciated.
The interior is finished in a soft golden-beige glaze, complementing the colorful exterior.
