Japanese Hanging Scroll – Two Carp (Sōri-zu) – Signed Suido (翠堂) A beautiful traditional Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku) depicting two gracefully swimming carp, bearing the signature “Suido” (翠堂) and two red artist’s seals. The composition features two finely detailed carp swimming in different directions, creating a harmonious sense of movement and balance. The artist has carefully rendered the delicate scales, flowing fins and subtle shading of the fish, demonstrating the refined brushwork associated with traditional Japanese painting. In Japanese culture, carp symbolise strength, perseverance, determination and good fortune. A pair of carp is also associated with harmony and prosperity.
