法國南部和南極大陸 1971/1997 - 极地邮件与海事封套珍藏72件(Paquebot)- 封套、签名、应付邮资

An engaging collection of 72 covers featuring Antarctic and subantarctic correspondence sent to and from the French Southern and Antarctic Lands (TAAF). The lot combines diverse international frankings, research-station cancellations, ship cachets, captains’ and crew members’ signatures, postage-due indications and numerous returned or redirected items. International origins and varied frankings The selection includes TAAF and French stamps alongside frankings from East Germany, Poland and other countries. Particularly unusual origins for Antarctic correspondence include Vatican City, Turkey and the Cook Islands. Single and multiple frankings, overseas cancellations and forwarding instructions offer considerable scope for studying international postal routes to remote destinations. Antarctic and subantarctic destinations Material relates to Dumont d’Urville in Terre Adélie, Port-aux-Français in the Kerguelen Islands, Alfred Faure on Crozet, and Martin-de-Viviès on Amsterdam Island, together with Saint-Paul-related material. Several covers are addressed to expedition personnel, radio operators or poste restante destinations, sometimes routed through Hobart, Australia. Tax markings and postage due Numerous “T” markings, some accompanied by manuscript fractions or figures, indicate assessment for insufficient postage and a potential charge payable by the recipient. These provide interesting examples of international postage-due procedures; the markings alone do not confirm that the charge was collected. Returned and redirected mail A prominent feature is the variety of return endorsements, including “RETOUR À L’ENVOYEUR”, “RETURN TO SENDER”, “ADDRESSEE UNKNOWN” and “N’HABITE PAS À L’ADRESSE INDIQUÉE”. Crossed-out addresses, forwarding instructions and additional postal markings illustrate the difficulties of delivering correspondence to ships, seasonal expeditions and isolated research stations. Ships and polar expeditions The collection includes cachets associated with L’Astrolabe, Marion Dufresne, Gallieni, Austral, Albatros and Polarstern, together with French Antarctic expedition markings. Several covers bear PAQUEBOT or “Courrier posté en mer” handstamps, identifying shipboard mail handed over for postal processing ashore. Captains’ and crew members’ signatures Signed examples feature handwritten signatures of captains and crew members, alongside ship cachets and endorsements such as “Le Capitaine” and “Le Commandant”, adding a personal connection to the vessels and voyages represented. Signatures are offered as present, without separate authentication. A varied collection for specialists in TAAF, polar exploration, maritime postal history, international frankings and returned correspondence. Condition varies, with folds, toning, opening wear, address deletions and other signs of postal handling. Please examine all photographs carefully. The lot comprises 72 covers. Front and reverse photographs show the same items and are not additional pieces. I don't combine shippings Following a recent change in international sector regulations, specifically Articles 18 and 19 of the Universal Postal Convention, starting from January 1, 2026, it will no longer be possible to send items (goods with or without commercial value) using International Registered and International Insured services, which will continue to be used exclusively for sending documents. It means that starting from January 1st, 2026, I will ship abroad only by "POSTE DELIVERY INTERNATIONAL STANDARD" starting from 25,80€ without insurance

International origins and varied frankings

The selection includes TAAF and French stamps alongside frankings from East Germany, Poland and other countries. Particularly unusual origins for Antarctic correspondence include Vatican City, Turkey and the Cook Islands.

Single and multiple frankings, overseas cancellations and forwarding instructions offer considerable scope for studying international postal routes to remote destinations.

Antarctic and subantarctic destinations

Material relates to Dumont d’Urville in Terre Adélie, Port-aux-Français in the Kerguelen Islands, Alfred Faure on Crozet, and Martin-de-Viviès on Amsterdam Island, together with Saint-Paul-related material.

Several covers are addressed to expedition personnel, radio operators or poste restante destinations, sometimes routed through Hobart, Australia.

Tax markings and postage due

These provide interesting examples of international postage-due procedures; the markings alone do not confirm that the charge was collected.

Returned and redirected mail
