Longines Conquest V.H.P., reference 4018 – silver-white grained dial, stainless steel case with gold-plated bezel and crown, date, on its solid steel bracelet with Longines-signed folding clasp. PLEASE NOTE: the bezel and the crown are gold-plated, not solid gold. The caseback is engraved "STAINLESS STEEL" only and the watch carries no gold hallmark. On the bezel the polished gold channels are dulled, with a brownish cast and rub marks, most visible between roughly 4 and 6 o'clock and again around 8 and 9 o'clock; the plating is no longer uniform, although no base metal is clearly exposed. The bracelet is solid stainless steel and is not gold-plated or two-tone. The crown is unsigned. The caseback carries no water-resistance marking of any kind, so please treat the watch as not water resistant. The battery age is unknown and the V.H.P. calibre has an end-of-life (E.O.L.) battery indicator, engraved on the caseback. V.H.P. stands for "Very High Precision", the thermocompensated high-accuracy quartz line Longines introduced in the 1980s, and this example carries the V.H.P. Quartz script on the dial together with the E.O.L. marking on the caseback. The watch pairs a slim stainless steel case with the classic Conquest gold-plated bezel of twelve frosted scalloped pads, a silver-white grained dial with applied gold markers and a date at 3 o'clock, and its original solid steel bracelet closing on a Longines-signed folding clasp. No spots, stains, patina or lifting; all applied markers and luminous dots are present and the printing is crisp. - Crystal: clean. No scratches, chips or cracks were found in any of the photographs. - Case: light hairlines from normal wear; no dents or dings. The caseback shows fine swirl hairlines from handling and all engravings remain sharp. - Bezel: the gold plating is dulled and discoloured in the polished channels, mainly between about 4 and 6 o'clock and around 8 to 9 o'clock. This is the main cosmetic flaw on the watch. - Crown: gold-tone, domed and vertically fluted, unsigned. Intact, with no chips, cracks or deformation; there is a little dark grime at the crown tube. - Bracelet and clasp: bright and crisp with only light hairlines and handling marks on the clasp cover. No rust, no grime and no visible stretch. Both Longines signatures are clearly legible. Working order The watch is running as pictured. Timekeeping accuracy and water resistance have not been tested with professional equipment. Please consider this a vintage used watch that may require servicing at some point.
