The Thorens TD 2001 offered high-end performance at a reasonable price. Its exceptionally well-crafted chassis featured a closed, and therefore highly rigid, plinth made of 16 mm thick solid wood. The design of the leaf-sprung sub-chassis was unique: Three leaf springs were positioned so that the center of mass—comprising the sub-chassis, platter, and tonearm base. This ensured an even load distribution, which is essential for precise, wobble-free oscillation.

The factory-fitted TP 90 tonearm with a TP 95 headshell and an effective mass of 17g) features a frictionless magnetic anti-skating mechanism and allows for the use of custom interconnect cables to the amplifier.
