Model History:

The “Ultrasonic” designation found on many vintage Enicar dials does not refer to an electronic or acoustically regulated movement. It originated from an advanced manufacturing process introduced by Enicar in 1953, in which unassembled movement components were cleaned using ultrasonic waves and subsequently treated to improve lubricant retention.

Based on its movement and distinctly mid-century styling, this example most likely dates from the transitional period between the late 1950s and early 1960s. It combines a slender gold-plated case and elongated lugs with a vertically textured champagne dial, applied gold-tone hour markers and a recessed subsidiary-seconds register.

Condition:

The watch is presented in authentic vintage condition and retains considerable period character. Its champagne-toned dial features a distinctive fine vertical texture, applied gold-tone hour markers and a recessed subsidiary-seconds register with a contrasting concentric finish. The Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 give the dial a particularly attractive mid-century appearance.

The dial displays visible age-related spotting, surface wear and localised discolouration, particularly around the outer minute track and near several hour markers. More pronounced marks are visible in the upper-right section and around the 3 o’clock area. The applied numerals, hour markers and hands also show oxidation and age-related surface wear. Despite these imperfections, the Enicar, Ultrasonic and 17 Jewels inscriptions remain clearly legible, while the vertically textured finish continues to give the dial strong visual character.

The case is marked K14 20 MICRONS M, indicating a base-metal case with a 20-micron 14-carat gold coating. The stainless-steel back is separately marked. The gold-plated surfaces show scratches, spotting and general wear, together with areas of coating loss along the bezel, lugs, case sides and crown. Its original shape and slender curved lugs nevertheless remain attractive.

The stainless-steel case back shows light scratches and normal signs of previous use. Its material and plating inscriptions remain clearly legible. No conventional reference number is visible on the exterior or inside of the case back.

A new, clear and scratch-free crystal and a new black leather strap have been fitted. The Enicar AR 1012 hand-wound movement has been serviced and is functioning correctly. A 3-month guarantee is provided on functionality.
