Beautiful, fully restored wooden paper-enclosed temple lantern 行灯 (andon) of the maru 丸形-type (cylindrical) with a vibrant vermillion red lacquer finish. The lampshade has a revolving frame which can be opened. This was used to lit a candle! But now the lamp is equipped with a newly electrified CE-fitting. When lit, the fine washi-paper gives a lovely warm glow. Fitted with a metal loop handle on top for easy transport. The front of the circular base equipped with a drawer, which was used to store the matches and such. Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912). Dimensions: Height 74.5 cm, Diameter 30 cm. The washi-paper has been completely restored, and the frame itself is in a very good condition with minimal signs of wear conform age. No lamp bulbs included.
