A Hellenistic Revival 24K Gold Ring with Lion and Goat Heads Greek, late 20th century, in the archaic manner. The navette-shaped bezel is hand-chased in repoussé with the confronted heads of a lion and a goat. The lion has a richly textured mane and the goat has a sweeping horn and beard. The motif recalls the Chimera of Greek myth, the fire-breathing beast slain by Bellerophon, as well as lion-and-goat imagery found on archaic Greek coinage. The bezel is framed by a twisted rope-wire border with granulated pellet finials at each point. The stepped, columnar shoulders are accented with clusters of three granules, a hallmark of ancient Greek goldsmithing revived by Athenian jewellers.
