ABOUT THE ARTIST Born in 1968 in Ciamis, West Java, Jono Sugiartono is an Indonesian artist whose practice combines painting with mineral and organic materials. His work draws on the natural and cultural heritage of the Indonesian archipelago, exploring relationships between memory, humanity and the environment. His approach is informed by the Sundanese principles of Silih Asah, Silih Asih, Silih Asuh: mutual learning, care and support. Alongside his own practice, he mentors and encourages other artists through Jono Art Space. His biography includes exhibitions in Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar, as well as mural projects in historical and hospitality settings.
