antique French Napoleon III Style Brass Double Inkwell - 19th Century
A beautiful and heavy 19th-century French double desk inkwell with an integrated vertical letter rack.
The piece is crafted in the iconic, exuberant Napoleon III / Rococo style from high-quality cast brass (laiton coulé).
It features a highly detailed, hand-finished design that showcases the excellent craftsmanship of French foundries from the late 1800s.
Key Features & Condition:
- Material: Heavy cast brass with a stunning, genuine golden-aged patina. The naturally polished high points display a warm, luminous gold luster.
- Porcelain Inserts: Crucially, this piece includes BOTH of its original white porcelain ink containers. They are completely intact, with no chips, cracks, or restorations—a very rare find for items of this age.
- Decorative Details: The vertical back panel (dosseret) features an intricate openwork design with scrolling acanthus leaves and a central sculpted bearded mask (mascheron). The front includes a generous built-in pen tray (plumier) for holding dip pens or quills.
- Condition: In very good, structurally perfect antique condition. Shows minor, honest signs of age, including a small touch of natural green verdigris oxidation near the left hinge, which beautifully authenticates the alloy and its history. No maker's mark (unstamped version from the period).
Exact Measurements:
- Maximum Length: 30 cm
- Maximum Width: 17.5 cm
- Maximum Height: 15 cm
This elegant and functional piece is perfect for a classic office desk, legal study, or as a centerpiece for discerning antique collectors.
The product will be professionally packed and sent safely to your address by local post.
The pictures of the product are made with the highest possible resolution, precisely to capture possible small defects (small scratches, stains, defect), the pictures are part of the product description.
