A magnificent bronze crossbow fibula with a strongly arched bow rising from a transverse head-bar terminating in prominent rounded knobs. The surface is embellished with a series of punched ring-and-dot motifs extending across the bow and along the elongated foot. The broad bow narrows towards the junction with the foot, while the surviving fastening mechanism is arranged beneath the body of the brooch.
Crossbow fibulae were characteristic dress fasteners of the Late Roman Empire, particularly during the 3rd–5th centuries AD. They were worn by soldiers, military officers, and civil officials to secure cloaks and other garments.
