Tore Johnson, Sven Auren - Hallarna i Paris ("The Markets of Paris", WITH ORIGINAL DUSTJACKET) - 1967

Welcome to the second auction by Anatole Desachy (France) and Ecki Heuser (Germany) in celebration of Paris. At the occasion of ‘’Paris Photo’’ fair, we have gathered a new selection of classical & uncommon Photobooks about the city of light. Enjoy and good luck with your bids ! FANTASTIC BOOK ABOUT THE FAMOUS "LES HALLES" from 1967 - with photos by well-known Swedish photographer Tore Johnson. WITH THE VERY SCARCE ORIGINAL DUSTJACKET. VERY FRESH CONDITION. "Les Halles" was Paris's central fresh food market. It last operated on 12 January 1973 and was replaced by an underground shopping centre and a park. The unpopular modernist development was demolished yet again in 2010, and replaced by the Westfield Forum des Halles, a modern shopping mall built largely underground and topped by an undulating 2.5 hectare canopy. The mall sees around 50 million visitors every year, making it the busiest in France as of 2019. It is directly connected to the massive RER and métro transit hub of Châtelet–Les Halles, Paris's busiest station." (Wikipedia) This is a lot by 5Uhr30.com (Ecki Heuser, Cologne, Germany). We guarantee detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% transport protection, 100% transport insurance and of course combined shipping - worldwide. Wahlström & Widstrand, Uddevalla. 1967. First edition, first printing. Hardcover with dustjacket. 160 x 215 mm. 132 pages. 48 black and white photos. Photos: Tore Johnson. Text: Sven Aurén. Text in Swedish. Condition: Book inside and outside fresh and clean with no marks and with no foxing. Dustjacket fresh and complete with no tears, with no taped tears and with no missing parts; light trace of use. Overall very fine condition. Wonderful book about "Les Halles" in Paris - with the very scarce original dustjacket in fresh, much better than usual condition. "Tore Yngve Johnson, born January 8, 1928, in France, and died May 14, 1980, in the Maria Magdalena parish in Stockholm, was a Swedish photographer. He was a member of the group Tio fotografer ("Ten Photographers") and the son of Eyvind Johnson. In 1948, he worked as an assistant to K.W. Gullers and for a short time to Sten Didrik Bellander. From 1948 onward, he worked as a freelance photographer, taking assignments for, among others, the magazine Vi. Johnson was one of the participants in the exhibition "Young Photographers" in 1949 in Stockholm. He spent several years around 1950 living in Paris together with fellow Swedish photographers—an experience that came to strongly influence his future style. During the 1950s and 1960s, he carried out photographic assignments for the then Stockholm City Street Office, where he documented the office’s work. Tore Johnson became best known for his realistic yet poetic images of urban environments and people, both in Sweden and abroad, including in Congo, the USA, France, and the Arctic region. Since 2002, his archive has been part of the collections at the Nordic Museum. Tore Johnson also appears on the cover of Imperiet's compilation LP Live/Studio from 1988, featuring the photograph “Strippan” Finnerödja from 1956, as well as six images on the back cover from the same series. He is buried in the memorial grove at Skogskyrkogården in Stockholm." (Wikipedia)
