洞熊 - 頭骨化石 - Ursus spelaeus - 50 cm - 26 cm
On offer is one of the most iconic animals of the Ice Age, the cave bear or Ursus Spelaeus.
One of the most distinctive features of these prehistoric bears was their large, domed skull, which was much larger and more rounded than that of modern bears. This shape allowed them to house powerful jaw muscles. The molars were broad and flat, suggesting an adaptation for grinding tough plant materials. The structure of their teeth indicates that cave bears were largely herbivorous, although some evidence suggests they might have occasionally scavenged for meat.
On display is a massive cave bear skull that was found in the mid eighties by local amateur speleologists. It was carefully reassembled and restored to its original features. As these caves are nowadays rightfully protected, no bone material may leave this prehistoric sanctuaries anymore.
This remarkable specimen comes with a custom-made black coated steel display.
Worldwide shipping, fully insured in a custom-made wooden crate.
Good luck to all bidders! (There is a low reserve price, so don't hesitate to make a bid!)
