Jacob Holdt - United States 1970-1975 (MINT CONDITION, SHRINK-WRAPPED) - 2008

SCARCE OPPORTUNITY to purchase this HIGHLY IMPRESSIVE, IMPORTANT PHOTOBOOK by Danish photographer Jacob Holdt about AMERICA IN THE EARLY 1970s - in BRANDNEW CONDITION. Still widely unknown and widely underrated - MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. New, mint, unread; still originally shrink-wrapped in publisher's plastic foil. COLLECTOR'S COPY. THIS IS THE LAST EXCLUSIVE PHOTOBOOK AUCTION by 5Uhr30.com in 2025 - with more than 100 great lots from my personal collection and from recent acquisitions. Like always we guarantee detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% transport protection, 100% transport insurance, and of course, combined shipping - worldwide. 'In the early 1970s, when Jacob Holdt first arrived in the US with 40 dollars in his pocket, he planned to travel quickly across the country to South America. But, totally shocked and fascinated by what he discovered, he ended up staying five years. His family could scarcely believe the letters he sent them detailing the poverty he saw, so his father sent him a cheap amateur camera in order that Holdt could send home proof of his claims.' (from the publisher) WE THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT THIS YEAR - making our single-seller photobook auctions on Catawiki so successful. Ecki Heuser & team are wishing ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND YOURS for 2026. Steidl, Göttingen, 2008. First edition, first printing. Hardcover with dustjacket. 210 x 250 mm. 191 pages. 90 colour plates. Photos: Jakob Holdt. Text in English. Great photobook - in perfect condition. 'Living as a vagabond, selling his blood twice a week, hitch-hiking over 100.000 miles, he depicted an incredible and unique portrait of America and its underclass. He befriended whomever offered him a lift in their car and a lift frequently became an offer to stay a few days. He never said no and ended up visiting more than 350 homes where he photographed the people he lived with.' (from the publisher)
