Rhodochrosite, Arsenopyrite and fluorescent Calcite on Sphalerite pseudomorph after Pyrrhotite from Trepča Mine, Trepča complex, Mitrovica, Mitrovica District, Kosovo.
A superb and compositionally complex specimen from the renowned Trepča Mine, Kosovo. Lustrous metallic crystals of arsenopyrite are intergrown with sharp rhombohedral crystals of pink rhodochrosite, all resting atop a bed of dark sphalerite crystals that pseudomorph former pyrrhotite blades. Scattered over the surface are transparent to milky calcite crystals showing a vivid pink fluorescence under UV light, adding an impressive visual contrast.
This specimen captures the classic paragenesis of the Trepča ore body, combining bright sulfide luster, delicate color balance, and prime association on a single attractive matrix. A fine collector’s piece from one of Europe’s most mineralogically diverse localities.
Specimens from Trepča are sought after for their striking fluorescence, high crystal quality, and historical significance in European mineralogy. This piece stands out as a fine example from a classic locality and is ideal for display, scientific study, or discerning collectors.
The Trepča Mine is celebrated as one of Europe’s premier mineral localities, renowned for the diversity and beauty of its sulfide minerals. This specimen captures both the visual allure and the rich mining heritage of the region, making it a coveted addition for collectors seeking classic Balkan minerals or a distinctive display piece from Kosovo’s mineralogical crown jewel.
