賣家描述
This rare wall relief by Helmut Schäffenacker (model 573, Ulm/Do., Germany) captures two stylized horses rendered in richly glazed terracotta. The work displays Schäffenacker’s hallmark style—combining sculptural abstraction with vivid, painterly surface treatment. Deep cobalt, turquoise, and earthy brown tones merge in a dynamic composition, enhanced by tactile relief and controlled glaze crackling.
Made in the 1960s at Schäffenacker’s Ulm studio, this piece reflects his unique position between postwar modernism and expressive ceramic art. Every work was handcrafted and kiln-fired individually, making each relief subtly unique.
Stamped on the reverse: “schäffenacker ulm/do. made in germany 573.”
A metal hanging wire is attached (original to the period).
The metal display stand shown in the photos is *not included*.
Approximate dimensions: Height 37 cm, Width 11.5 cm, Depth 2.5 cm.
Very good vintage condition.
Schäffenacker (1921–2010) was one of Germany’s most important postwar ceramic artists, known for transforming wall ceramics into expressive modern art. His works were exhibited internationally and are now sought-after by collectors of mid-century European design.
