About Tsutsumi ware (堤焼)
Tsutsumi-yaki, or Tsutsumi ware, is a traditional Japanese pottery style that originated in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture.
Known for its refined yet rustic appearance, Tsutsumi-yaki is characterized by warm earth tones, soft glazes, and subtle natural textures that reflect the serene beauty of northeastern Japan.
Each piece is shaped and glazed by hand, often featuring a simple elegance that celebrates the imperfections of the clay itself.
This craft embodies the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi—finding beauty in transience and imperfection—making every Tsutsumi-yaki work one of a kind.
About Kanma Haryu IV (四代針生乾馬)
Kanma Haryu IV was a master Japanese potter born in 1927 in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, and the fourth-generation head of the prestigious Tsutsumi-yaki Kanma kiln.
