It has little or nothing to do with its cousins ​​from Alsace or Moselle, despite the misleading and somewhat ironic name, because here we are in Cormons, in the heart of the Friulian Collio, with entirely different soil and climate characteristics. But the result achieved by Giorgio Badin, it must be admitted, is remarkable. The Isonzo area offers very favorable conditions, especially for white grapes, with warm days and rather cool nights. Giorgio's philosophy is to support the cultivar as much as possible, seeking to deepen his understanding of it while respecting the soil as deeply as possible. "Schulz" from Ronco del Gelso is a 100% Riesling. The vines grow in the flat area between the tributaries of the Isonzo River, as it descends from the mountains towards the sea. The soils are stony and poor, so the vines are vigorous and produce a self-regulating yield. Once harvested, the grapes undergo a brief drying period in the drying room, before being pressed whole bunches. Fermentation is triggered by selected yeasts and takes place at a controlled temperature of 19°C. It then spends approximately 10 months on its lees in stainless steel tanks until bottling. The Ronco del Gelso Riesling “Schulz” presents a beautiful, intense, straw yellow color. The aromas, once opened, evolve from yellow fruit to the hydrocarbon notes that make the grape variety unmistakable. On the palate, it stands out for its freshness, a full and vigorous sip whose strength is also evident in the finish, which features a long, persistent finish.
