From Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji: Under the Wave of Kanagawa - Masterpiece - NO RESERVE - Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849) - Published by Unsodo - 日本 (沒有保留價)
Masterpiece from Hokusai. This is the simbol of Japan.
Perhaps the most famous woodblock print of all time, Hokusai's "Great Wave" is a masterpiece of Japanese art. The enormous wave crests in a burst of foam and spray, curling tendrils of water reaching out like fingers, the foam raining down like snow. The powerful sea tosses three small fishing boats on the rolling swells, the wave about to crash over them. The snow-covered peak of Mt. Fuji appears in the distance against a gray sky, dwarfed by the immensity of the wave. This timeless design shows the magnificent power of nature over man. An incredibly powerful image, masterfully composed and detailed.
Hokusai Katsushika (1760~1849)
who was active in the Edo period, worked in many fields such as actor paintings and illustrations for reading materials. He also studied a wide range of Chinese and Western painting techniques, and his landscape paintings using shading and perspective eventually became the “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji,” including the masterpiece ” A Mild Breeze on a Fine Day”.
Hokusai’s works have greatly influenced Western artists, and he is still considered one of the most famous Japanese painters in the world.
