This scroll comes with an appraised box by 保尊和夫 Hoson Kazuo. 保尊良朔 Hoson Ryosaku (1896-1953) Hoson Ryosaku was born in Hotaka Hongo, Nagano Prefecture. He studied under Hashimoto Seisui of the Japan Art Institute, through whom he also absorbed influences from Hashimoto Gahō. Recognized early at the Institute’s exhibitions, he developed a distinctive style in landscapes and bird-and-flower painting, combining classical Tosa traditions with modern sensibilities. In 1938 he co-founded the Shinkō Bijutsuin (New Art Institute), serving as organizer and juror while fostering younger artists. During the war he contributed to regional art associations, and after 1950 he helped revive the Shinkō Bijutsuin.
