A black and dark red Shunkei-style lacquered wooden house shrine 仏壇 (butsudan), adorned with intricate detailing throughout. The gilded interior is filled with auspicious symbols, including peacocks, various treasures, lotus flowers, and chrysanthemums, all intricately carved and gilded. Please take a close look at the photos of the interior to get a grasp of the various details. From the ceiling there are two decorative hangers meant for candles, they can also be removed. The altar is designed to hold three votive figures. The altar itself is raised on decorated galleries and rests above a a compartment with beautiful lacquered sliding doors, decorated with bamboo, flowers and birds in raised maquille lacquer and mother of pearl. It also features a hidden pull-out tray. The shrine can be closed with an inner set of red lacquered doors with gold latticework and decorative hardware. The outer doors, finished in black and Shunkei-style lacquer, showcase gold lacquered cartouches and are fitted with decorative metal hardware, including an ornate sliding lock at the front. The shrine sits atop two bases with three latch doors and two drawers. When acquired new, in Japan these shrines are extremely expensive to buy!
