This is a finely crafted Ko-omote Noh mask carved and signed by the respected artisan Nijo Kikuzuki, complete with its original wooden storage box (tomobako) bearing the inscription “能面 小面 二条掬月作” (“Noh Mask – Ko-omote – Made by Nijo Kikuzuki”).
The Ko-omote mask represents the face of a young woman—pure, serene, and subtly expressive. It is one of the most iconic and widely appreciated masks in the classical Noh repertoire.
This particular example shows exquisite smoothing of facial contours, delicate eyebrow shading, refined lip work, and traditional black lacquer on the reverse side.
