ITEM:
This impressive full samurai armor from the late Edo period stands as a powerful symbol of martial heritage and aesthetic refinement. It features a suji bachi helmet composed of multiple iron plates and crowned with a magnificent wood golden maedate in the form of a flaming dharma wheel (kuruma no tate), representing Buddhist law and enlightenment.
The armor boasts multicolored lacing (odoshi) in warm orange, beige, dark blue and maroon tones, harmoniously combined with black lacquered plates and floral motifs painted in gold on light backgrounds. The large shoulder guards (sode), ornate back knots (agemaki), and elegant thigh and shin protectors speak to its high status and possible ceremonial use.
Despite minor wear in the lacing due to age, the armor remains structurally sound and visually striking. It includes a full set of components from kabuto to kutsu (fur-covered footwear), and a beautiful orange silk obi with golden motifs. A museum-worthy piece for serious collectors and historians alike.
