He is best known for uncovering a large proportion of the Assyrian palace reliefs in Nimrud and Nineveh. Layard sent several specimens to England which still forms the greater part of the collection of Assyrian antiquities in the British Museum. External covers are clean and in nice shape, with slight wear to the leather. Internally, in very good condition indeed. Old inscription with neat ink on top front free endpaper page. Pages are clean, with occasional light foxing marks on the margin of some pages. Inner hinges are very good. All pages are tightly held at the gutter. The fold out map is complete.
