Biography Tanaka Raishō (1868-1940) Born in Iwami (Shimane Prefecture) in 1868. His real name is Daijiro. His aliases are Hobun and Raisho.His nickname was Koukei. Studied under Mori Kansai at first. Later studied painting under Kawabata Gyokusho. He was awarded a special prize at the Bunten Exhibition. He became a member of the Teiten Committee in 1924. His specialty was landscape painting. He died in 1940 at the age of 73. Ochiai Sofu (1913-?) Born in 1913 in Hirata City, Shimane Prefecture. He moved to Tokyo in 1934 and studied under Japanese-style painter Ochiai Rohu, becoming a research member of the Rohu Exhibition. After Rohu's death in 1937, he returned to his hometown Hirata, where he established his own unique style of painting rooted in his local culture.
