The damage must be reported to your local post office within 7 days of delivery, and promptly to us and Catawiki support. 【Product details】 This early 20th century wooden wall hanging depicts Buddhist figures or Arhats (disciples) carved directly into a section of tree trunk. The main figure is seated in meditation at the top, holding ritual objects, with additional smaller figures positioned below, including one standing gracefully and holding a lotus bud on a stem. Waves are carved at the base, evoking a mountain grotto scene where sacred figures appear within nature. In Buddhist tradition, grotto or mountain carvings represent the sacred presence of deities and enlightened beings within natural landscapes. Such works were believed to bring protection, spiritual guidance, and blessings to the household where they were displayed. The lotus, here shown as a Jyoka (purification lotus), symbolises purity and enlightenment, rising unstained from the mud to blossom in beauty. The piece is carved in the round but designed to hang against a wall, as seen from the rough bark left at the back and the old wire fixture still attached. Please note that the wires are not smooth, with some ends sticking out, so care should be taken when handling to avoid stubbing or scratching yourself. It does not stand freely on its own.
