【Product details】
This is an original mixed-media print titled “Bride of Perfection” by the Japanese artist Hisashi Otsuka, published in 1996. It is printed on 100% neutral-pH rag with an embossed silk texture and a pearlised coating, with gold-leaf accents visible in the design. Printing was executed by Black Box Collotype (Chicago). The work is signed in the plate in Japanese with Otsuka’s red seal, and the lower margin is hand-inscribed “A.P. 7/25.”
A.P. 7/25 means “Artist’s Proof number 7 out of a total of 25.” Artist’s proofs are a limited subset of impressions pulled outside the main numbered edition, traditionally kept by the artist for review and approval. They are identical in quality to the standard edition but are rarer and often regarded as more desirable among collectors.
A Certificate of Authenticity is affixed to the back of the frame, issued by Images International (Hawaii) and signed by Stevenson C. Higa. The COA records: medium “Mixed Media Print,” size 13 × 16 inches, printer Black Box Collotype, year 1996 (Chicago, IL, USA), and the plate “destroyed by cutting.”
Presented in a wooden frame with glass glazing.
The artwork portrays a refined Japanese woman in a richly patterned kimono featuring a peacock motif—symbolising beauty, dignity, and renewal—set against a serene monochrome garden scene. The interplay between the vividly coloured figure and the subdued background heightens the sense of grace and quiet strength, reflecting Otsuka’s signature fusion of traditional Japanese aesthetics and Western compositional sensibility.
Hisashi Otsuka (b. 1947) trained in Japan and later settled in Hawaii, developing a style that fuses Japanese aesthetics with Western influences. Grounded in Zen and the martial arts, his practice balances discipline with refined decorative detail, and his works have been exhibited internationally.
Condition: the print is in excellent condition. The wooden frame shows minor blemishes around the edges. Overall, good to very good used condition.
Dimensions of Frame: approx. H 49 cm W 58.3 cm D 2.1 cm
