Medieval / Crusader Period Silver Ring with Red Glass Cabochon – 13th–15th Century AD
Material : Silver with red glass cabochon inlay
Description :
This intriguing antique silver ring features a rounded, elevated bezel holding a deep red translucent cabochon — likely glass or possibly garnet. The bezel is bordered by a distinctive saw-tooth (zig-zag) decorative edge, while the shoulders and band are adorned with a repeating hammered and granulated-like pattern, giving the ring a distinctly medieval and almost armour-like appearance.
The design language corresponds well with Crusader-era and medieval Near Eastern / European jewellery traditions, where silver rings with coloured stones were worn for protection, status, and symbolic value. Red stones in particular were associated with strength, vitality, and divine or talismanic properties.
Such rings were commonly worn by pilgrims, soldiers, merchants, and local elites, and could function as both ornament and amulet.
