Bronze vase (Meiji period, ca. 1890–1910) Depicting Hotei, the god of happiness, holding a fan and surrounded by cranes in a detailed landscape. Rich brown patina with traces of gilding on the kimono. Finely cast and engraved with a beautiful sense of movement. A classic example of Meiji-era metalwork.
