Rare, good sized 19th Century patinated bronze profile portrait plaque of a bare headed Napoleon in military uniform cast in high relief byMaire. Signed 'Maire Fecit 1814' In two tones of patinated bronze with mid bronze for the portrait and dark for the frame which has a loop for suspension. Very similar to official portraits of Napoleon struck on commemorative medals towards the end of the Empire by Depaulis (see Bramson 1323 The Battle of Wurtchen), A similar plaque sold at Christies, New York, 24th May 2001, France, circa 1811.
