Tsunenobu was an important painter of the early–mid Edo period and the second head of the Kobikichō branch of the Edo Kanō school. His Yoshino screen is widely admired and survives today in collections such as the Tokugawa Art Museum. The original composition depicts Mount Yoshino in spring, with cherry blossoms in full bloom, gentle gold mist, villagers strolling, terraced rice fields and a shrine nestled among the trees. This Showa reproduction presents the same tranquil spring atmosphere, with soft colours and elegant arrangements typical of the Kanō school. The frame fittings display Tokugawa family crests. Condition: This is a vintage item and shows visible signs of ageing. The front paper surface has discolouration, foxing, smudges, small stains, rubbing and light scratches. The gold background shows mottling and areas of abrasion. The mounting border has age-related darkening and minor fraying. The black lacquered frame has multiple chips, scratches and dents, including lacquer losses on the corners, bottom edges and side rails. The brass fittings show tarnish. The hinges have some wear but remain functional. The reverse side shows significant ageing: overall darkening, horizontal streaks, stains, scuffs, scratches, dents, creases, wear and several small tears or losses along the edges and corners. Some areas at the seams show lifting. The screen stands correctly and both panels remain connected. Fair to good used condition. Please refer to the photos for all details.
